We are honored and truly blessed to be in a position where we can provide looking after for two of our granddaughters throughout the summer months. They are a lot of fun and both are very witty and funny girls and this particular summer they have gotten along perfectly. We have had few reasons to administer talking tos and therefore it has been a great experience for us.
They are both extremely busy in the summer with gymnastics, swimming, and lots of other things that remove them for fairly long periods of the day. But today, there are no activities and therefore, we decided to have Fun Food Friday where we made some different fun things for breakfast and for lunch.
Pawpaw is usually the chief cook with me as the chief bottle washer but today I thought I would don the apron and make breakfast. Yesterday, I asked the girls how they would feel about Strawberry Crème Cheese French Toast Rollups and they both enthusiastically (I thought) nodded in the affirmative.
Off to the store we went to obtain needed items for said breakfast delights. This even involved a sunrise trip this morning to get the things we forgot in our initial shopping event.
And make them I did. And they were very pretty little rolls of crème cheesy goodness with strawberry sauce and whipped crème on top garnished with tiny little morsels of strawberry.
I noticed one of the girls was less than thrilled with my offering and so I asked “do you not like them?” To which she replied, “I don’t like strawberries.” “Okay, wouldn’t that have been a good thing to tell me yesterday when we discussed having them today?” She replied, “I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.” **sigh**
But, I was not alone in the failure of Fun Food Friday. Roger, who used to manage a Simple Simons Pizza place back in the day thought it would be fun for them to make their own little individual pizzas for lunch. We prepared Italian Sausage, chopped veggies, grated fresh mozzarella cheese, homemade crusts, pepperoni and plain old canned sauce. We made the crusts and then called them to come and make their own pizzas. They dove in with wild abandon and placed sauce and cheese on top of their crusts and proclaimed they were done. Well, to be fair, they might have used 6 pepperonis between them.
We baked them up and they each ate 2 pieces.
Therefore, the next time we opt for Fun Food Friday it will benefit small local businesses.
And the menu will consist of:
Peace out!
